Warm Up to Winter in Delafield

There's no reason to stay indoors when the snow flies! Bundle up and come to Delafield, which is hosting a number of lively events and activities this winter.

Things to do in Wisconsin when there is snow on the ground...

Cross-Country Skiing

Wide-open spaces in the heart of pristine nature make Delafield an ideal launching point for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The 17-miles of Lapham Peak's cross-country ski trails are a popular wintertime destination. Lapham Peak is the only state park that has a lit trail (2.5-miles) and snow making equipment to help preserve the ski trail for season-long enjoyment. The groomed trails can accommodate for all abilities. Beginners can try out the special 0.4-mile loop made just with them in mind. Ski rentals are available on weekends. The quiet woods of Naga-Waukee Park and the level Glacial Drumlin State Trail are open to cross-country skiers throughout the winter.

Candlelight Skiing - January/February
Ski by the glow of candlelight during these January/February events, which draw skiers from the entire region. Enjoy dinner in the crisp winter air... pre-lit charcoal grills and an inviting bonfire is provided! Don't ski? Enjoy the smooth ice on the skating pond instead! Sponsored by Friends of Lapham Peak. Call 262-646-3025 for more information.

Snowshoe enthusiasts are welcome on many of the trails, with Lapham Peak carving out a special 5-mile trail for this brand of winter fun.

When snow covers the Glacial Drumlin State Trail, it's your chance to take in the best of winter on your snowmobile. The 40-mile trail also connects to other county snowmobile trail systems.

Ice Skating

In addition to the outdoor skating pond in Lapham Peak, Delafield has added a new outdoor skating rink!  The Grand Opening of the Oakwood Park Ice Skating Rink was December 21, 2013.  Oakwood Community Park is a 39-acre park located on the northwest corner of STH 83 and Oakwood Road.  Entrance to the rink is free, however remember to bring your skates!

Ice Skating

Winter fun can be found indoors, too. In addition to the outdoor skating pond in Lapham Peak, the Olympic-size Naga-Waukee Ice Arena offers indoor ice-skating year-round. Special public skating hours September through mid-April. Skate rental and skate sharpening available. Call 262-646-7071 for hours.

Curling is a sport of skill and etiquette said to have begun in Scotland. The Kettle Moraine Curling Club (2630 Oakwood Road, Hartland, WI) runs leagues throughout the season, and is the host to numerous bonspiels, drawing teams from all over the country. For details and event schedule, call 262-367-8862 or visit the website www.kmcurlingclub.com.
